Two men, known as Ayeni Abolarin, 42; and Ajayi Oluwaseun, 34, have been arraigned by the Ekiti State Police Command before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over the killing of two minors.
The Duo is standing trial on two counts of conspiracy to murder and murder.
Inspector Caleb Leranmo, the police prosecutor, told the court on Monday that the defendants allegedly committed the offenses on October 11, 2020, in Ado Ekiti.
Leranmo said, “The defendants, on the said date, unlawfully murdered two minors, a five-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy, who were sent to buy provisions on the street by their grandfather, but their dead bodies were later found in an abandoned car.
“The offenses are punishable under sections 324 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”
The prosecutor said he had forwarded their case files to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for advice.
Meanwhile, Mr. Opeyemi Ogunremi, Counsel for the defendants, sought a date of adjournment pending advice from the DPP.
Chief Magistrate Abdulhamid Lawal ordered that the defendants be remanded in a correctional center pending the legal advice from the DPP’s office.
The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case till December 23, 2020, for further hearing.
