Controversy trails popular singer, Dammy Krane again as the Afro pop musician risks a three-year jail term over allegations of cyber bullying and criminal defamation.
Reports say Dammy Krane is set to be dragged before the Igbosere Magistrate Court in Lagos on a three counts charge by the Zone 2 Police Command.
The charges against Dammy Krane borders on threat to life, defamation and conduct likely to cause breach of peace which was instituted against him by Merrybet Gold Limited.
A portion of the charge sheet with registration number B/56/2019, revealed that the musician threatened the lives of staff members of the betting company on July 25, 2019, and also released a song in which he accused the firm of a breach of contract.
The charges against Dammy Krane read thus in part, “That you, Johnson Hunga Oyindamola and others at large on the 29th day of July, 2019, at Cool FM in the Lagos magisterial district did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Conduct likely to cause breach of peace and threat to life and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 412 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
“That you, Johnson Hunga Oyindamola and others at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did threaten the life of the staff of Merrybet Gold Limited and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 301 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
Trouble reportedly started between Dammy Krane and Merrybet Ltd when he attended a game show sponsored by the betting company, but lost to an opponent.
After the game show, Dammy Krane requested to be paid for his appearance but the organisers disagreed, insisting that only the winner of the contest gets the cash prize.
Miffed by the decision not to pay him for appearing on the game show, Dammy Krane subsequently went on a radio station, where he said the betting company owed him money and claimed that they breached a contractual agreement.
