The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Delta State University, Abraka branch, identified as Monday Izu, who was last week kidnapped by gunmen while returning from an official assignment in Warri, has regained his freedom.
NEWSNAIJA learned he was freed alongside his driver after six days in custody.
The abduction took place on the Eku-Abraka Road in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, where the gunmen waited around a failed portion of the road.
It could be recalled from the information gathered that the kidnappers made contact with his family on Saturday with his mobile phone and demanded N24m, which was later reduced to N5m.
Izu and his driver were later released and reunited with their family members.
As of the time of filing this report, no one could tell if the ransom was paid or not.
DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development.
Onovwakpoyeya said the police were on the trail of the abductors.
