Gunmen On Wednesday, dressed in police uniform entered Rivers State University and stole about N20 million from numerous Automated Teller Machines belonging to a new generation bank.

According to an eye witness, the five-man gang ordered the on-duty varsity security officers to open the gate as they proceeded straight to the bank, which was located near the institution’s park.

NEWSNAIJA learned the hoodlums tied up shuttle drivers who slept at the park, as well as the security guards.

The eye witness claimed that the armed men smashed four ATMs and grabbed the money before fleeing.

According to Nnamdi Omoni, a spokesman for the state police command, who verified the occurrence  said “Their wearing of police uniforms is the subject of speculation. Well, I can confirm that unknown thieves robbed the ATM gallery at Rivers State University and took millions of nairas.

He said About N20m was removed from the ATM gallery. They damaged four ATM stands and robbed them,”

Omoni said five people were arrested in this incident, adding that the state police commissioner brought a team to the scene to conduct an on-site assessment.

He pointed out that some bank staff have also been invited.

It was learned that there is a police station a few kilometers away from the gate of the university.
