The Delta State Police Command has said on Thursday that men of the command killed two suspected armed robbers in Asaba, the state capital.

DSP Bright Edafe,  the state Police Public Relations Officer, who made this known in the State Capital, claimed that the suspects died during a gun duel with the police.

Edafe said, “On March 3, 2021, while acting on a tip-off that some group of armed robbers/kidnappers were sighted opposite the Federal Road Safety Corps office, Asaba, a team of Rapid Response Squad operatives went for intervention.

“They rushed to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel. Two of them were seriously injured and later died, while others escaped.

“One AK-47 rifle with Breech No. 19567 and two magazines with 18 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from them.”

Also, the PPRO  said a hotelier,  identified as Zion Onofighe, and 16 of his workers were rescued after an attack in the Ogor community, in the Ugheli area of the state.

He said a distress call was received on Wednesday that the hotelier’s workers were being attacked by gunmen at his site in Ogor.

According to the PPRO, the patrol team sent to the scene engaged the hoodlums in a shootout and rescued the hotelier and the workers unhurt.
